Boston Marathon Qualification
Alongside the Olympic Games marathon, the Boston Marathon is the running event with the longest tradition worldwide and is therefore also one of the most important marathon events. The first race took place on April 19, 1897, and has been held annually on the third Monday in April (Patriots’ Day) ever since.

Qualification
To participate in the Boston Marathon, an official proof of a specific qualifying time is required. This time must have been achieved and verified at a USATF or AIMS certified marathon event (full marathon only). The Würzburg Marathon is one of the few marathon events in Germany that is recognized as a qualifier for the Boston Marathon!
Approximately 30,000 runners are admitted, but the number of registrations is usually much higher. In such cases, spots are awarded to the fastest runners. This means a good net time can be crucial for participation in the Boston Marathon.
Information
The Boston Marathon takes place annually. The race starts in Hopkinton and finishes in Boston (U.S. state of Massachusetts). Registration is usually possible during the second week of September at 10:00 AM (Eastern Standard Time – EST) – exact dates will be announced in summer. For athletes with disabilities, the registration period begins during the second week of October at 10:00 AM (EST).
Please note the time difference of -6 hours (CET vs. EST).
